Exams & Cleanings

At a regular dental check-up, a professional dental cleaning, exam and x-ray is recommended. Our team will examine your child’s smile, perform x-rays and thoroughly clean their teeth. A professional cleaning removes plaque and tartar buildup and helps prevent tooth decay and infection. An exam and x-ray will help your child’s dentist detect any early signs of dental problems and allow for prompt treatment. By treating decay and infections early, your child’s teeth can be saved from extensive treatment, and pain, down the road. Scheduling regular dental check-ups is recommended to help your child maintain a healthy smile.

Cleaning & Fluoride

During a professional cleaning, a special brush and toothpaste are used to thoroughly clean the teeth, gums, and remove plaque and tartar buildup. Flossing is used to clean in-between the teeth. Regular six month cleanings also include a fluoride application. Fluoride is recommended to help protect both the teeth and the gums. Some patients may need cleanings every 3-4 months to help avoid dental problems if they are considered high-risk for infection or decay.

We also offer silver diamine fluoride (SDF), a liquid composed of silver, fluoride, and ammonia. This fluoride is used to stop a cavity from growing. SDF is typically used for children who cannot receive treatment right away or children who are too young for sedation. SDF is effective for desensitizing a tooth.

Tooth-Colored Fillings

If dental decay is found, the decay will need to be removed to avoid further damage to the tooth. Once decay is removed, a cavity is left that needs to be filled. Tooth-colored fillings blend in naturally with the color of the teeth and are used to restore and protect your child’s tooth. Fillings can be applied quickly and painlessly and are made to last for many years.

Zirconia Crowns

If your child’s tooth is damaged, a dental crown can be used to restore the appearance of the tooth. Tooth-colored crowns blend in naturally with surrounding teeth. Zirconia crowns are made for primary teeth and can be used until the baby teeth fall out. A child’s confidence can be boosted with the help of a restorative dental crown.

Space Maintainers

If a baby tooth falls out before the permanent tooth is growing in, a space maintainer is recommended to keep the surrounding teeth from shifting out of place. Space maintainers help your child’s smile stay aligned and helps to avoid crowding.
